Topic: Fourth of July Program
The Jefferson Davis State Historic Site, located at Hwy. 68/80 in Fairview, KY, will observe the site’s first annual 4th of July Program, with reading and signing of the Declaration of Independence. The park will have the parade of soldiers representing the Revolutionary War to present, craft vendors, food vendors, period music, and dance. Visitors will have the opportunity to sign the declaration. All events are free except for monument and museum tours, which cost $8 per adult / $7 for military or senior citizens / $6 for children ages 5-12. Topic: The American Red Cross Urges Blood Donors
The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood in the weeks surrounding Independence Day to help ensure a sufficient blood supply now and throughout the summer. All those, who come out to donate blood July 2nd through July 6th, will receive a Red Cross embroidered hat, while supplies last. Donors of all blood types – especially O negative, A negative, and B negative, are needed. Topic: “Summer Gospel Fest 2015”
New Horizons presents “Summer Gospel Fest 2015” on July 25th at Virginia Street Park from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be vendors, food, fellowship, and fun for all. Artists include: The Dulin Sisters, Tim Boss Bell, Cedar Grove Youth Choir, Dexter Wilford and Triumph, Nate Bean, Jerda Musick, Gospel Pioneers, Toney Dabney, Paul Kenner, Angela Thompson, Demontrz Bell, and more. Topic: Barbecue and Car Wash Fundraiser at the YMCA
There will be a barbeque and car wash fundraiser on Thursday, July 16th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 pm at the Hopkinsville YMCA, located at 7805 Eagle Way By-pass. Dressed hamburgers will be sold for $4.00; hot dogs for $2.00; and drinks for 50 cents. Barbequed whole Boston butts will be sold at $25 each by pre-order only. First Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN, located at 435 Madison St., will host Music Camp July 20th – 24th. Music Camp is a fun-filled week of Christian fellowship and musical activities for children, who have completed grades 1st through 6th, and is sponsored by the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church in Clarksville. This year the camp is centered around the musical, “King of the Jungle”. This musical shows how God uses animals to teach Biblical truths in a fun way. There will be an accessory swap and luncheon to benefit the “2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s” at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 14th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. First United Methodist Church is located at 1305 S. Main Street in Hopkinsville, KY. You can donate jewelry, belts, scarves, and handbags and swap with friends for a donation. There will also be a silent auction for a hand-made quilt. All children are invited to the “Backyard Bible Study” at Kirkwood Baptist Church, 3400 Kirkwood Road in Clarksville, TN. This year is the 215th Anniversary of the “Second Great Awakening”, which has sparked a revival in America. The tent meeting, that was near Hopkinsville and hosted by Shekinah Glory Ministries, the Revival Center in Columbia, KY, and God’s Missions Ministry, is moving to the Red River Meeting House in Adairville, KY, in Logan County, July 9th – 12th. Meetings will be held each day at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The location is 3008 HWY 663 in Adairville, KY. The Cornell Memory Center, across from the Chapel House off of North Drive in Hopkinsville, KY, is a part of the Christian Care Communities Campus. A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has started sidewalk upgrade work along Skyline Drive from Ft. Campbell Blvd. to East 9th St. (Pembroke Rd.) in Hopkinsville, KY. Sometime in mid-April, the contractor plans to begin milling and asphalt paving along this same section. Motorists should be alert for lane restrictions and equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

The “Trash for Cash Program” has officially opened for 2015. Registration packets may be picked up and returned to the Public Works Complex, located at 705 North Main Street in Hopkinsville, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The “Trash for Cash Program” will run from now until October 31st, or until the required 158 miles are completed. Tax identification numbers for all non-profit groups are required in order to participate in the program.
