Topic:  Master Gardening Classes

 

Are you interested in becoming a master gardener?  New classes will begin Tuesday, September 8th, and will last for 13 weeks.  The cost is $100 for materials.  Sign up by Monday, August 31st.  Applications are on-line or can be picked up at the Christian County Cooperative Extension Service, at 2850 Pembroke Rd. Topic:  “Gospel Music Extravaganza”

 

The annual “Gospel Music Extravaganza”, hosted by The Childress Family, will be held at Victory Church, located at 615 Brown Road in Madisonville, KY, on Friday, Sept. 11th and Saturday, Sept. 12th.  The church is at Exit 42, just off the Pennyrile Parkway.  Singing begins on Friday, Sept. 11th, at 6:30 p.m. with Southern Sound, Southern Raised, Tim Lovelace, and The Childress family.  The singing on Saturday, Sept. 12th, begins at 2:00 p.m. and includes the Hoppers, Tim Lovelace, and The Childress Family.  Doors open one hour prior to singings.  Admission is free and an offering will be received.  For special hotel rates or general information, please call 270-836-8882 or visit online at childressfamily.com.

First United Methodist Church, located at 1305 S. The Housing Authority of Hopkinsville will begin accepting applications for its Section 8 Rental Assistance Program beginning Monday, August 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on Holidays.  Applications are available at the Housing Authority office at 400 N. Elm St. in Hopkinsville, KY.  They will be accepted on a walk-in basis every Wednesday after Aug. 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 and 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. through September 16th. Topic:  After-School Bible Clubs

Topic:  Challenge House Run/Walk

Topic:  Sidewalk Upgrades

 

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has started sidewalk upgrade work along Skyline Drive from Ft. Campbell Blvd. to East 9th St. (Pembroke Rd.) in Hopkinsville, KY.  Sometime in mid-April, the contractor plans to begin milling and asphalt paving along this same section.  Motorists should be alert for lane restrictions and equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Topic:  “Trash for Cash Program”

 

The “Trash for Cash Program” has officially opened for 2015.  Registration packets may be picked up and returned to the Public Works Complex, located at 705 North Main Street in Hopkinsville, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  The “Trash for Cash Program” will run from now until October 31st, or until the required 158 miles are completed.  Tax identification numbers for all non-profit groups are required in order to participate in the program.  Please contact Robin Charles at 270-348-5881 or by email at robincharles@bellsouth.net to schedule a day you would like to participate.

Topic:  The 2015 Creation College Expo

 

The Creation Museum will host the Fifth Annual College Expo on November 6th and 7th.  Many of the nation’s Christian colleges and universities will be gathered in one place, giving you the opportunity to visit one-on-one with representatives from around the country.  There will be special guest speaking sessions geared to equip and inform you as you consider higher education.  This is a free event, and all registered students receive complimentary Creation Museum admission plus a chance to win a $500 scholarship.  Please register at CreationCollExpo.org.

Topic:  Park Naturalist Monthly Hikes

 

The park naturalist at Pennyrile Forest State Park will plan a unique hike that will fit the season on the first of each month in 2015.  Summer hikes will be in the morning or evening to avoid the heat of the day.  Fall hikers will enjoy seeing beautiful fall colors.  These hikes are free.  Hikers are urged to bring water and dress for the weather.  A hiking stick is recommended.  To register for a hike, contact the naturalist office at 1-800-325-1711 or at rebeccae.clark@ky.gov.  Hikers must register one week prior to the event.
